the change

One of the things we were longing for was the good weather. We do love Scotland, and Edinburgh will always be "home", but did welcome sunshine and heat (a lot of heat!9 after 10 years of cold weather.
We have been going out most days, either to the swimming pool or to the local park right in front of us, or a walk after dinner to see the fountains show near Burj Kalifa. The outdoor life has been great. But being over 30 ºC everyday, makes you forget that it is fall in other parts of the world.  I was getting very intrigued why the prices of some fruits (peaches and plums) have suddenly went up. Yesterday I had my moment of clarity and realised that, despite the great weather here, peaches are no longer in season!

Some memories

(from my instagram account)

So many things have happened in the last months.

Mid July we head off to Portugal for the summer holidays. The boys had a blast of a time with all the family. Grannies were superb looking after them (thank you) while we started a new adventure. I went back to Edinburgh to finish work and get the flat ready to rent, while  P flew to Dubai to start his new job!
Exciting times.
I was lucky enough to get  a few days in Portugal with the boys, family and friends before moving the family to the middle East.

As any move, there are highs and lows, excitement and fear of the unknown. But here we are in our new life in Dubai.

Our blog is no longer "our adventure in Scotland", but rather our "adventure in the World". That’s what we are, citizens of the world.

More to follow anon.

Last day of P1

Primary one finished this morning. I can't believe how much he has learned. He had a wonderful teacher that "is ever so nice" in his own words. Lots of friends will be missed once we move to the new school. I have also made some fantastic friends at this school and I feel a bit sad by saying goodbye to such a nice school and people.
Today was the first day of many goodbyes

Our chat still flows and we still laugh at each other
We are still in love, perhaps even more than 11 years ago.

Feeling sad, really sad with these results.
I know Europe is not perfect, but the reasons why people vote to leave are disgusting. This is a Britain I don't recognise and that I don't believe in.
When I looked at the map of the elections, for a few seconds, I felt what possibly most Scots feel towards England.

"But mummy, why does the UK do not want to play with the other countries anymore? That's not kind"

Trying to explain a 6 years old about today's referendum is a challenge. All my arguments are for staying as well, but as an immigrant I have no say on this.

I am a bit fed pup with all the anti immigrant comments and I just hope the multicultural values that the UK has will prevail.

2 anos

2 anos, querido Lucas, 2 anos.

Do tempo

Depois de tantos anos já não deveria reclamar. Mas esta semana foi muito dura, fria, com direito a neve.
Respiro e volto a tentar lembrar me "this too shall pass"

para confortar

Poema/oração de Santo Agostinho (Sec. IV)

A morte não é nada.
Apenas passei para o outro mundo.
Eu sou eu.

Apenas estou do outro lado do caminho.

Já verás, tudo está bem.

Redescobrirás o meu coração,
e nele redescobrirás a ternura mais pura.

Seca as tuas lágrimas e se me amas,

não chores mais.

Star dust

E a história repete se, 15 dias depois.

Muitas saudades.

We are all made of star dust.
